About this property

Peedie Cott sits on the Back Road in St Margaret's Hope, an easy stroll from the waterfront of one of Orkney's most likeable villages. It's a bright, cheerful little cottage that has been done up with real care, the sort of place you settle into the moment you put the kettle on.

Inside

The heart of the cottage is the dining and kitchen space at the back, where a small table for two looks straight out through patio doors to the garden. There's good natural light, smart green-fronted units and everything you need to cook a proper meal after a day out on the islands. Fresh tulips on the table when we last looked tell you how it's kept.

Where you'll sleep

There are two double bedrooms, both with characterful floral wallpaper, solid black metal bed frames and crisp white linen. One catches the morning light from a roof window, the other looks out to the side. Bathing is split across two rooms, both finished in calm teal panelling with a fun seagull print — one with the WC and basin, the other with a separate shower. Folded towels are laid out ready.

Step outside

The patio doors open onto an enclosed garden with a blue-painted fence, planted borders and a square of lawn — a sheltered spot to sit out with a cup of tea when the Orkney sun obliges.

The setting

St Margaret's Hope, or “The Hope” as locals call it, is the main village on South Ronaldsay and the arrival point for the Gills Bay ferry. You'll find a handful of shops, cafes and a working harbour all within walking distance, and the wider attractions of St Margaret's Hope on your doorstep, including the dramatic cliffs and sea stacks of the Orkney coast.

Perfect for

A couple or a small group of friends wanting a comfortable, well-kept base for exploring the South Isles — close to the ferry, close to the village, and quiet enough to feel like a proper retreat.
