Our Affiliate Partnerships
Orkney Stays participates in affiliate programmes with Booking.com (via CJ Affiliate — covering stays, car hire, flights, and the Genius loyalty programme) and Hotels.com (via Partnerize). When you click an affiliate link on our website and complete a booking, we may earn a commission from the booking platform.
What This Means for You
- No extra cost: You pay exactly the same price as you would if you visited Booking.com or Hotels.com directly. Our commission comes from the booking platform, not from you.
- Same deals and offers: Any discounts, promotions, or loyalty benefits available on the booking platform apply in full when you book through our links.
- Your booking is with the platform: When you click through and complete a booking, your contract is directly with Booking.com or Hotels.com. Their terms, cancellation policies, and customer support apply.
How We Choose Properties
Our property listings and recommendations are based on our own editorial judgement. We feature properties that we believe offer good quality accommodation for visitors to the Orkney Islands. The presence of an affiliate relationship does not influence which properties we list, how we describe them, or how they are ranked on our website.
Ratings and review scores shown on property pages come from verified guest reviews on Booking.com and are not created or edited by us.
How to Identify Affiliate Links
We mark affiliate links in several ways so you always know when a link will earn us a commission:
- Property pages:the “Check Availability” button links to the property's listing on Booking.com or Hotels.com, with a disclosure notice directly below.
- Blog post banners:in-article banners promoting car hire or flights carry a “Sponsored” caption beneath them, and the link itself uses
rel="sponsored nofollow noopener"as required by Google's Webmaster Guidelines. - Sidebar cross-sell:the animated banner in the right sidebar of blog posts (desktop) shows a “Sponsored” line below it.
- Genius slide-out:the small promotional card that may slide in from the bottom-right after 30 seconds on selected blog posts carries a “Sponsored” pill on the card and an “affiliate link” note below the call-to-action.
Click Tracking
Affiliate links on Orkney Stays pass through our own redirect (/api/affiliate/redirect) before forwarding you to the booking platform. The redirect logs the banner identifier, the page you clicked from, and a coarse device/IP classification (your IP address is truncated to the first three octets — for example 82.131.45 rather than your full address) so we can measure which content is useful to readers. We do not log your full IP address, name, email address, or any personal identifier. Bot traffic is filtered out before logging. The redirect adds no cookies on your device.
Why We Use Affiliate Links
The commissions we earn from affiliate partnerships help us maintain and improve Orkney Stays. This income supports the cost of running the website, creating content about the Orkney Islands, and keeping our property information up to date — all at no cost to our visitors.
Compliance
This disclosure is provided in accordance with the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) CAP Code, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines on endorsements and testimonials, and the terms of our affiliate programme agreements.
