1 Taits Flat is a cosy ground-floor apartment in a handsome traditional stone building, right on the waterfront with the harbour and Front Road just steps away. Sleeping two, it's a snug coastal bolthole where the views over the water do most of the talking, and the sunsets here are something special.

Inside

The flat has a warm, seaside feel throughout, with a comfortable layout that suits a couple. There's a kitchen for self-catering and an easy, relaxed style to the rooms, all set in a thick-walled stone building with deep window sills and window boxes of bright flowers out front.

Where you'll sleep

The bedroom is a calm, coastal-themed double, dressed in blues and whites with a wrought-iron headboard, shell and lighthouse cushions and a lighthouse print above the bed. The shower room is clean and practical, with a glazed shower enclosure, basin and WC.

Step outside

Step out the door and you're on the waterfront. The photos say it best: glassy water at sunset with the pier reflected, the red-and-white ferry sitting offshore, and the harbour stretching away under a wide pink sky. Boats come and go, and the light shifts through the evening.

The setting

With the harbour, pier and Front Road right outside, you're perfectly placed to soak up island life and watch the ferries from across Orkney arrive and depart. It's a front-row seat on the water, ideal for slow mornings with a coffee and long, golden evenings.
