2 Bedroom house overlooking Pierowall Bay, Westray

This two-bedroom house sits on the edge of Pierowall on the island of Westray, with open farmland rolling away from the windows and the bay close by. It's a straightforward, comfortable island home that sleeps five, with parking right outside and space for the whole family to spread out after a day exploring.

Inside

The living room is warm and lived-in, with a sofa dressed in throws and tartan cushions, a stove-style fireplace and a wall-mounted TV. There's a well-stocked little bookcase and a footstool by the fire for the evenings when the weather turns. The kitchen runs off to one side, with a freestanding cooker, washing machine, fridge-freezer and a window letting plenty of light onto the wood-effect floor.

Where you'll sleep

There are two bedrooms across the two doubles and a twin, sleeping five in total. One double has a dressing table with mirror, a wardrobe and a window framing the fields, brightened by mustard throws. The twin room is just as cheerful, with a seascape print above the beds and a bedside lamp between them. A framed puffin picture in the second double is a nice island touch.

Step outside

The windows look straight out over open grassland towards Pierowall Bay, so you get that big Westray sky and the changing light without leaving your chair.

The setting

Pierowall is the main village on Westray, one of the friendliest of the northern isles, with a beach, a heritage centre and the ferry and plane links that make island-hopping around Orkney so easy. It's the kind of place where you slow right down and let the days find their own pace.
