8 Firth Square is a roomy upper-floor apartment in a grey-rendered terrace on Junction Road, with its own entrance and a dormer window up top. It sleeps four across two bedrooms, has parking and a hot tub listed among the extras, and a carpeted staircase leads up from the door to the living accommodation.

Inside

The kitchen is a practical galley fitted with light wood units, a glass hob, a built-in oven, an air fryer and a washing machine, with a row of pegs for coats and tea towels and wood-effect flooring underfoot. It's a no-nonsense, well-equipped space for cooking and laundry in one.

Where you'll sleep

Both bedrooms are good doubles. The first has a wooden bed frame with a grey geometric throw, a pine wardrobe, a desk and chair by the window and a framed sailing print, lit softly by bedside lamps. The second sits up under the sloped dormer ceiling, with a matching wooden bed, a chest of drawers, a leather armchair, a mirror and coastal prints on the walls. The shower room is bright and simple, with a corner shower, a basin and WC, a heated towel rail, a beach-and-boat print and a slim frosted window letting in the light.

The setting

You're a short walk from the middle of Kirkwall, with the cathedral, shops, harbour and eateries close by and your own parking for heading out across the islands. It's a comfortable, central base for a town-led stay.
