Aviedale Suite

A self-contained suite in open Orkney countryside at Gorseness, Rendall, with one of the better outlooks you'll find this side of the West Mainland.

The setting is rural and quiet — the Aviedale sign sits at the road end above rolling fields that run down to the water, with neighbouring crofts and the sea filling the horizon. It's the sort of place where you arrive and immediately drop your shoulders.

Rooms & comfort

Inside, the suite is homely and cared for. The double bedroom has a dark wood sleigh bed dressed in soft blue-grey check, floral feature wallpaper, a bedside lamp and a small bookcase, with a window framing the fields and sea beyond. The kitchen area is fitted with a tidy worktop and the entrance has a friendly touch — a horseshoe over the wood door and a 'Welcome' sign. The bathroom is fully modern: grey wood-effect tiling, a smart LED-lit mirror, a clean white basin and toilet, and a traditional towel radiator.

The location

Rendall sits on the north-west coast of the Mainland, a short drive from the broch and birdlife at the Loch of Wide and within reach of the rest of Orkney. It's properly out in the country — expect sheep in the next field and big skies overhead.

Good to know

Sea views, free parking, WiFi, a TV, a washer and use of the kitchen and garden. There's a picnic bench out on the grass that looks straight over the water — a fine spot for a coffee or an evening drink.
