Bellevue Inn

The Bellevue Inn sits right on the waterfront at St Margaret's Hope, part of the handsome stone terrace that lines the shore of this South Ronaldsay village. Look across the still water at dusk and you'll see the whole row reflected back, the inn among the painted and stone-fronted houses that have stood here for generations. It's an honest, welcoming place to stay with the sea quite literally on the doorstep.

Rooms & comfort

The rooms are roomy and characterful, several with a stone-effect feature wall behind the bed and warm lamplight on either side. Beds are dressed in soft throws and plump pillows, with mirrors, hanging space and freestanding wardrobes provided. Some rooms come kitted out with a microwave, kettle, toaster and a small fridge tucked into a sideboard, handy for a light breakfast or supper in. There's a twin option as well as doubles, and a clean tiled shower room serves your stay. With sleeping for up to four, it works for couples and small groups alike.

The location

St Margaret's Hope is one of the most attractive villages in Orkney, with a couple of eating spots, a shop and the Pentland Ferries link to the Scottish mainland just along the road. The Churchill Barriers, the Italian Chapel and the cliffs of South Ronaldsay are all within an easy drive, and Kirkwall is around twenty minutes north.
