The larger of the two Castleyards flats, Apartment 2 is a roomy two-bedroom home in the centre of Kirkwall, ideal for a family or two couples travelling together. It's light and spacious, with parking provided, all within a few minutes' walk of the cathedral and town.

Inside

The open-plan living and dining room is generous and full of daylight from twin windows. A big black leather corner sofa faces the TV, there's a coffee table and a solid oak dining set with room for everyone to gather, and it's the kind of comfortable, sociable space you actually want to spend evenings in. The kitchen is fully fitted, with a cooker and the full set of appliances for self-catering, and a folder of Orkney guides is on hand for planning trips.

Where you'll sleep

Two bedrooms sleep up to four. One has a double with bedside lamps either side and a calm, restful feel; the other is set up flexibly with a mirror and dressing table and views out over the rooftops. Fresh towels are provided, and there's a washing machine for longer stays.

The setting

Like its neighbour, Apartment 2 is right in the thick of things. St Magnus Cathedral, the shops, eateries and harbour of Kirkwall are an easy stroll, and the ferry terminal makes island day trips simple. Park up and walk, or head out across the Mainland by car.
