Clickimin at 59 Degrees North Sanday Orkney

Clickimin sits out on Sanday, one of Orkney's northern isles, on a working slice of land with nothing but fields and sky around it. The story here is one of restoration: the original croft, photographed years ago as a roofless ruin, has been brought back to life with care, with thoughtful, modern comforts behind traditional stone walls. Inside

The heart of the home is a smart open kitchen in soft sage green, with timber-effect worktops, an island for gathering round, a built-in oven and hob, and a window framing the fields outside. It is designed for proper cooking and easy living, with room to sit and plan the day over a coffee.

Where you'll sleep

The cottage sleeps two in one bedroom, with a bathroom to itself, an intimate, well-appointed setup for a couple. Wifi keeps you connected when you want to be, and the washer is there for longer stays.

Step outside

The land around Clickimin is the draw. Open grazing, drystone dykes and big Sanday skies stretch in every direction, with a private hot tub to soak in under the stars. There is space for the dog to stretch their legs, and the kind of dark, quiet nights you only find this far north.

The setting

Sanday is one of the gentler, sandier of the Orkney isles, known for long pale beaches, seals and birdlife, reached by a short ferry or flight from the Mainland. It rewards anyone happy to slow right down and let the island set the pace.
