Dana is a mid-terrace two-storey home in a quiet residential street, easy to spot by its smart blue-clad upper level and the small Juliet balcony above the door. Daffodils line the path in spring, there's parking nearby, and it's a comfortable, practical base for four just a short hop from the middle of Kirkwall.

The kitchen is fully fitted in sleek black units with a chequerboard tiled floor, an oven and hob, microwave, fridge-freezer and the everyday essentials — a workable, no-fuss space for cooking and casual meals. A carpeted staircase and landing connect the two floors, with a fire extinguisher to hand and storage tucked along the way.

Where you'll sleep

Two bedrooms sleep four. One is a relaxed double with a Highland cattle canvas above the bed, a warm red throw, and a window over the garden that opens onto a small balcony. Towels are set out ready. There are two bathrooms here, which makes a real difference for a group — a main bathroom with a shower over the bath, and a second shower room with a corner cubicle and a washing machine, so you're never short of space first thing.

The setting

You're close to the heart of Kirkwall, with St Magnus Cathedral, the shops, restaurants and the harbour all within easy reach. It's a handy spot for ferries to the northern isles and for striking out to explore the rest of Mainland Orkney by car.
