Esviken 3 is a bright, contemporary home on Gold Drive, an easy reach of the centre of Kirkwall. The first impression inside is of a place that's been put together with real care — green trailing plants in box shelves, a 'Our Story' photo frame on the wall and a sense that it's properly looked after.

Inside

The living room is generous and full of light, with a pale two-seater sofa dressed in rust-coloured cushions, a matching armchair with a bright tropical-print cushion and a low round coffee table — a bottle of fizz and two glasses set out ready when we looked. A second sitting area carries the same blue accent sofa and a console with a coral lamp. The lounge flows into a dining corner with a glass table, and the TV space has a corner ladder shelf, a painted media unit and a Roman blind in a soft leaf print. The kitchen is fully equipped, with a separate utility space holding a tumble dryer, a Samsung washing machine, a Sonnen home battery and plenty of shelving.

Where you'll sleep

Across three bedrooms the house sleeps five. One double has a pine-framed bed under a colourful floral duvet with a deep pink blind; another has an upholstered headboard, a wildflower-and-sea canvas above and a built-in wardrobe with hangers ready. A carpeted staircase, lined with a bookshelf of paperbacks and a rustic plant shelf, links the floors.

The setting

You're right in Kirkwall here, so St Magnus Cathedral, the harbour, shops, cafes and restaurants are all within strolling distance, and the airport and ferry terminals are a short hop for day trips out to the islands.
