Inskeyft - Kirkwall

Inskeyft is a roomy detached holiday home for seven, and the first thing that catches you is the view — from the garden you look straight out over the bay, with the water, distant hills and scattered farmsteads laid out in front of you. With parking, a garden and space for the whole group, it's built for a family holiday with a bit of breathing room.

Inside

The sitting room is calm and welcoming, painted in soft blue-grey with a leather sofa, an oak sideboard, coastal prints and glazed French doors that open through to the dining area. That dining space seats six comfortably under a wall-mounted picture, opening on to a generous oak kitchen with tiled splashbacks, an American-style fridge-freezer, range and plenty of worktop — properly set up for cooking for a crowd.

Where you'll sleep

Four bedrooms sleep seven. There's a relaxed double under the eaves dressed in blue floral linen with a striped rug and bedside lamp, and a further bright room with a single bed, a wall TV and a radiator cover that doubles as a shelf. Two bathrooms keep a full house running smoothly in the mornings.

Step outside

The garden is the real draw — sit out with a coffee and that wide outlook across the bay, watching the light shift over the water and the fields beyond.

The setting

You're on the edge of Kirkwall, so St Magnus Cathedral, the shops and the harbour are close, while the open views and quiet make it feel a world away. Ferries and the rest of Mainland Orkney are an easy drive.
