Lilly's Lodges Orkney Hedgehog Lodge

Hedgehog Lodge is one of the arch-roofed glamping pods at Lilly's Lodges, set out on the green hillside at Finstown with grazing sheep for neighbours and a clear run of sky overhead. Clad in warm larch with its own decked garden behind a timber screen, it's a tidy, comfortable little hideaway with the firth glinting away in the distance and one of the other pods just along the slope.

Inside

The pod is finished in honey-toned pine throughout, keeping it snug and cabin-like. It comes with a kitchen so you can cook in, plus a TV for the evenings, and the curved ceiling and roof window keep it feeling light. A playful sheep-print blind at the window is a nice nod to the flock just outside on the hill.

Where you'll sleep

Hedgehog Lodge sleeps up to four, which makes it a comfortable choice for a small family. The compact layout is easy to live in for a few nights, with everything you need close to hand.

Step outside

The private deck is a lovely spot. There's a bistro table and a pair of pretty heart-back chairs to sit out with morning coffee, a cast-iron bird bath fixed to the post, and pots of colour around the edges. Beyond the screen the land rolls down to the sea, and on a clear day you'll watch a ferry slip across the firth.

The setting

You're a short drive from Finstown, the central village on the Bay of Firth that's perfectly placed between Kirkwall and Stromness and close to the West Mainland's Neolithic sites.
