Millfield Glamping Pods - Heatherhouse

Heatherhouse is one of the Millfield Glamping Pods near Stromness — a beautifully finished timber camping pod with a curved roof, glazed doors and a paved terrace out front. Lit up against the deep blue of an Orkney evening, it looks every bit the cosy retreat, and the open field beyond hints at the views you've come for.

Inside

The pod is snug, warm and cleverly laid out, with tongue-and-groove timber lining the walls and ceiling and wood-effect flooring underfoot. There's a dining table for two or four by the window, a wall-mounted TV, and a compact but properly equipped kitchen area — a stainless sink, an induction hob, and a cupboard below holding an air fryer, a kettle, a four-slice toaster, a Cookology fridge, pans, bowls and glassware, so you can cook in comfortably. Fresh tulips were on the table when we looked.

Where you'll sleep

The pod sleeps four, with a bed visible through the front doors and the living layout giving flexible space. The shower room is neatly fitted into the curve of the pod, with a corner shower enclosure, WC and basin and a patterned tiled floor.

Step outside

This is where Heatherhouse really earns its keep. The hot tub sits on the terrace looking straight out over fenced fields to a loch and the hills beyond — a remarkable spot by day, and softly colour-lit for a soak under the night sky. The paved patio gives you room to sit out and take it all in.

The setting

You're in open country near Stromness, the atmospheric old port town with its flagstone street, galleries and the ferry to Scrabster. Skara Brae, the Ring of Brodgar and the West Mainland's wild coastline are all within easy reach.
