No 1 Broughton Bed & Breakfast
About this property
No 1 Broughton sits right at the water's edge in Pierowall, the main village on the island of Westray. It's a tall white house looking straight out over the bay, and the first thing you notice from the shore is the big glazed conservatory built onto the front to make the most of that outlook. Step inside and the sea is never far from view.
Rooms & comfort
This is a one-bedroom stay sleeping two, kept simple and homely rather than fussy. The twin room is bright and traditional, with floral curtains, a comfortable armchair by the window and a bedside lamp for reading. There's a second room arranged with a stove and a dressing area, plus framed art and fresh flowers that give the place a lived-in, cared-for feel. Breakfast is part of the deal, and it's served in a lovely spot — a sunny room with a long window framing the water, the table laid with crockery, preserves and a pot of coffee. The conservatory, with its glass roof and chandelier, is a fine place to sit with a cup of tea whatever the weather is doing outside.
The location
Pierowall wraps around its sheltered bay on Westray, one of the friendliest of the North Isles and an easy hop by ferry or short flight from the Mainland of Orkney. The beach is on the doorstep, the village shop and heritage centre are close by, and Westray is famous for its seabird cliffs at Noup Head and the tiny Castle o' Burrian where you can watch puffins in season. A hot tub adds a relaxing end to a day spent exploring.
Good to know
There's free parking, Wi-Fi and a TV, a garden to enjoy and that all-important sea view from the front of the house. Cooked breakfast is included, so you can set off for the day well fed.
Perfect for
A couple after a genuine island bolthole — birdwatchers, walkers and anyone wanting a quiet, water's-edge base on Westray with breakfast taken care of.
