No 2 High Park Lodges

No 2 High Park Lodges is a timber-clad single-storey lodge with a smart slate roof and solar panels, set among a small cluster of similar lodges with a Norwegian flag flying out front. A raised gravel bed planted with flowers softens the approach, and there's a sheltered seating area on the decked terrace beside the door — a nice spot to sit out when the weather's kind.

Inside

The living room is calm and homely, with wood flooring, a navy two-seater sofa and a matching grey armchair grouped around the room. A console table with a warm-toned lamp, a coved ceiling and a couple of framed prints give it a settled, lived-in feel, and fresh flowers were out when we looked. The kitchen runs along under a big picture window that frames a drystone wall and open country beyond — there's a stainless sink, a microwave on the worktop and a washing machine tucked in alongside, so you're well set up for a longer stay.

Where you'll sleep

This is a two-bedroom lodge sleeping four. The bedroom we saw has a comfortable bed made up with crisp linen, framed coastal artwork, a TV on the wall and a writing desk with a chair by the window — towels left rolled and ready. The shower room is a real highlight: charcoal walls, a patterned tiled floor, a backlit mirror over a wide basin and a generous walk-in shower.

Step outside

The decked terrace and gravel garden give you somewhere to sit with a coffee, and the lodge looks out over walled fields and the rooftops below.

The setting

The lodge sits in open countryside on the Mainland with easy reach across Orkney — Kirkwall's shops, restaurants and the cathedral are a short drive, with the West Mainland's standing stones and cliffs not much further.

Perfect for

Two couples or a family of four, and being pet-friendly with parking, a garden, wifi and a washer, it suits anyone bringing the dog along for a quiet rural break.
