Orkney Lux Lodges - Brinkies Retreat

Brinkies Retreat is one of the Orkney Lux Lodges above Stromness, a striking curved-roof pod with a fully glazed gable that frames the view the moment you arrive. It sits on a smart composite deck with its own laser-cut 'Brinkies' nameplate and planters by the door, perched high enough to look out over the rooftops to the bay. It's compact, but every inch is well thought out.

Inside

The interior is bright and white-panelled under the arched ceiling. The kitchenette is neatly fitted with a sink, induction hob, combination microwave-oven, toaster, kettle and a coffee machine, with glasses on an open shelf, everything a couple needs for breakfasts and easy suppers. There's a TV and WiFi to keep you connected when the weather turns.

Where you'll sleep

This is a one-bedroom lodge for two. The shower room is small and spotless, with a corner shower and fresh towels set out ready.

Step outside

The decking is the heart of the place, with that elevated outlook over Stromness harbour and the water beyond. On a clear day you can pick out the golf links by the shore with the Hoy hills behind, and the light over the bay shifts all evening.

The setting

You're a short drop down into Stromness, with its flagstone main street, museum, galleries and the ferry across to Scrabster. The west mainland's beaches and Neolithic sites are an easy drive, and Hoy is right there across the sound.
