Orkney Lux Lodges - Hamnavoe

Hamnavoe is one of the Orkney Lux Lodges at Stromness, a beautifully finished curved-roof pod with a fully glazed gable that opens straight onto a private deck. Timber-lined and warm inside, it's designed so the view does the heavy lifting, the sea filling the window from the moment you wake. It's a romantic little retreat with a few proper luxuries.

Inside

Step in and it's all soft, natural tones under the arched timber ceiling. A large, generously dressed bed sits where you can see the water, with a small grey sofa, a jute rug and a wooden coffee table making a snug corner to relax in. Wall lights give it a cosy glow in the evening. There's a coffee machine and a handmade Orkney-style cup waiting, a TV and WiFi.

Where you'll sleep

It's a one-bedroom lodge sleeping up to three, ideal for a couple, with the bed positioned to make the most of that sea outlook.

Step outside

The private deck has its own hot tub, and there are few better places to sit and soak than here, looking out toward the golf links by the shore and the snow-dusted Hoy hills across the water. It's exactly the kind of view you came to Orkney for.

The setting

You're a short hop from Stromness itself, with its winding flagstone street, museum and the Scrabster ferry. The west mainland's beaches and ancient sites are an easy drive, and Hoy sits right across the sound.
