Orkney Studio Holidays
About this property
Set in a solid grey-stone townhouse right on the corner of Wellington Street, this studio puts you within easy walking distance of everything in central Kirkwall. The building is one of those classic Orkney terraces, three storeys of weathered stone with sash windows, and parking is straightforward on this quiet edge of town.
Inside
The studio is one bright, sensibly arranged room. A compact kitchen runs along one wall with a hob, microwave, kettle and a small fridge tucked underneath, and there's a washing machine built into the run so you can keep on top of laundry through a longer stay. A wooden dining table with chairs sits beside it, giving you a proper spot to eat or work, and there's a leather armchair to settle into. A wall-mounted TV keeps the evenings covered.
Where you'll sleep
The double bed shares the same open room, made up with crisp white linen and set under a wall light for reading. There's a tall pine wardrobe for hanging clothes. The shower room is just off to the side, with a basin, WC and a curtained shower. It's straightforward and clean, the sort of setup that works well for up to three guests who want a base rather than a sprawl.
The setting
You're a short stroll from the cafes, shops and the great red sandstone of St Magnus Cathedral in the heart of Kirkwall. Breakfast provisions are easy to pick up nearby, and the ferry terminal and bus links out to the rest of the islands are close at hand. For a town break with no fuss, the location is hard to beat.
Perfect for
A couple or a small group of three after an affordable, central Kirkwall base. With parking, WiFi, a kitchenette and a washer all in one room, it suits short stops, island-hopping trips and anyone who'd rather spend their money out exploring than on a big apartment.
