It's a tidy, modern bolthole in the middle of town, so you can leave the car parked and walk to almost everything. Step inside and it's warm, neat and ready to settle into.

Inside

The living and dining space is open-plan and finished in light wood flooring, with a sofa, a wall-mounted TV and tartan curtains framing the window. The dining table seats the four of you, dressed here with a cheery puffin-print runner. The kitchen has everything you need to cook properly, and there's a washing machine for longer stays.

Where you'll sleep

Two bedrooms sleep up to four, and there are two full shower rooms, so nobody's queuing in the morning. Both are bright and modern, with corner showers, heated towel rails, framed prints and soft bath mats, the sort of finish that makes a self-catering stay feel a notch above.

The setting

You couldn't be more central in Kirkwall, with St Magnus Cathedral, the Bishop's and Earl's Palaces, the shops and the harbour all a short stroll away. The northern-isles ferries leave from the edge of town, and the whole of mainland Orkney is an easy drive once you fancy venturing out.
