Quholmslie Farm Self-Catering
About this property
Quholmslie Farm is a long single-storey cottage set in wide-open Orkney farmland a short drive from Stromness. Pull up and you're greeted by a generous lawn rolling away from the house and big skies in every direction — the kind of quiet, rural spot where the loudest thing is usually the wind and the odd sheep. It's a roomy place built for a crowd, sleeping up to eight across five bedrooms.
Inside
The lounge is the heart of the house and it's a properly comfortable one — two large leather recliner sofas and matching armchairs gathered around an electric stove set into a slate-effect fireplace, with a smart wood-panelled feature wall behind. There's a TV and plenty of natural light from the windows, so it's an easy room to spread out in after a day out. The dining area has a solid wooden table with seating for the group and patio doors that open onto the fields, letting the green of the countryside right in.
Where you'll sleep
With five bedrooms there's room for everyone to have their own space. The double we can see is calm and neutral — a wooden-framed bed, fitted and freestanding wardrobes, a mirror and bedside table, with soft carpet underfoot. The family bathroom is fully tiled with a bath, a shower over it, a vanity unit with storage and a solid wood door. Three bathrooms in total keep things easy for a full house.
Step outside
The big lawn surrounding the house is yours to enjoy — space for children to run, a ball game, or just a chair in the sun. A hot tub makes a good spot to unwind under the open Orkney sky once the day winds down.
The setting
You're in the countryside close to Stromness, the handsome old harbour town with its flagstone main street, the Pier Arts Centre and the ferry link to Scrabster. Skara Brae, the Ring of Brodgar and the West Mainland's best walks are all within comfortable reach.
Perfect for
Larger groups and extended families — with eight beds, parking, a washer, family-friendly space and a hot tub, it suits a multi-generation holiday or a gathering of friends wanting one base for everyone.
