Rockworks Chalet No 6 sits right by the water at Saint Marys, a single-storey chalet with grass running down to the shoreline and an outlook across the bay to the low green Orkney hills beyond. It's a smart, modern bungalow — white render, neat tiled roof — and the position is what sells it: open water on the doorstep and big skies overhead.

Inside

The chalet is open-plan and bright, with a clear, contemporary finish throughout. The kitchen runs in pale gloss units with wood-effect worktops, a sink under the window, oven, hob, microwave and a wall-mounted TV, flowing straight into a dining area with a solid oak table and leather-seated chairs. A comfortable grey sofa anchors the living space, with a soft birch-woodland canvas on the wall and ceiling-mounted heating and cooling to keep things even. Light pours in through windows on more than one side, and the laminate flooring ties it all together.

Where you'll sleep

There are two bedrooms. The double is a calm, coastal-feeling room with a grey upholstered headboard, blue scatter cushions, a triptych of sea-toned abstract art and blue curtains framing the window. The twin room has two single beds in matching grey, an oak chest between them and a window letting in plenty of daylight — an easy room for children or friends sharing.

Step outside

This is the heart of it — the chalet looks straight out over the water, with grass leading toward the shore and grazing fields and hills across the bay. A genuinely lovely spot to sit out with a drink and watch the light change.

The setting

Saint Marys, on the shore of Holm, is a peaceful waterside village with the Churchill Barriers and the famous Italian Chapel close by, making it an excellent base for exploring the South Isles and the wider Orkney Mainland. Parking is right at the chalet.
