0Rousay Cottage
About this property
Rousay Cottage is a traditional Orkney home, part stone-built with a slate roof, sitting above a drystone dyke in open grazing land with the sea beyond. With its own parking and sheep dotted across the surrounding fields, it has a genuine island-croft feel, peaceful, rural and full of view.
Inside
The kitchen is fresh and modern, with white units, timber handles, an electric oven and hob, fridge-freezer and the everyday bits for cooking in, kettle, knife block and worktop space to spread out. There is wifi and a washer too, making it an easy place to base yourself for a few days or longer.
Where you'll sleep
The cottage sleeps four across two bedrooms. Both are bright and simply dressed in white, and the real treat is what is outside the window, one looks out over fields running down to the water, the other across open grazing to the sea. A bathroom serves the cottage, and with two bathrooms in all there is comfortable space for everyone.
Step outside
The land around the cottage is the whole point. Drystone walls, green pasture and grazing sheep, including some handsome horned native ones, stretch out towards the coast, with sea views and big skies in every direction. It is a quiet, unspoilt setting that pets are welcome to enjoy too.
The setting
Out in the wider Orkney countryside, you are surrounded by farmland, coast and wildlife, with the islands' beaches and archaeology within reach. This is a stay for slowing down and letting the landscape take over.
Perfect for
A family or two couples, dog included, who want a traditional cottage with sea views, grazing fields all around and the calm of rural Orkney just outside the door.
