Royal Oak Court Retreat is a roomy three-bedroom home set in a quiet residential court, the sort of comfortable family base that's been done out with a bit of personality rather than left plain. From the front it's an unassuming modern house; inside it opens up into generous, warmly decorated rooms that easily take a larger group.

Inside

The living room makes a real statement with a deep terracotta-red feature wall, a pair of forest-green velvet sofas, a matching armchair and a round brass-and-glass coffee table — there's a big wall-mounted TV and a leafy print curtain softening the window. It's a sociable, comfortable space to spread out in the evening. The dining and kitchen area is brighter and cleaner-lined: a white table with white moulded chairs sits beneath a striking Highland-cow print, while the kitchen runs in dark sage units with white goods, a microwave and open shelving styled with bracken-orange casserole dishes and hare-print mugs. Everything you need to cook for the household is to hand, kettle and toaster included.

Where you'll sleep

There are three bedrooms across the home. One double is dressed up with a buttoned emerald velvet headboard, crisp white linen and botanical scatter cushions, with brass lamps and a little puffin print either side. Another double looks out over the garden, made up in white with thistle-print pillows. A third double has soft green walls, its own wall-mounted TV and a window over the garden — a quieter room at the back.

Bedroom windows look onto the garden and neighbouring greenery, a calm outlook for a town setting.
