There's a proper living area too — a comfy sofa, a wardrobe and storage, a dining table for sit-down meals beneath a Velux window, and a TV — plus a compact kitchen with oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and skylight, so you can come and go on your own time. A washer is on hand for longer stays.

The location

Twatt lies in the rural West Mainland of Orkney, handy for some of the islands' best-known sights — the Brough of Birsay, the surf and sands of the west coast, and the Heart of Neolithic Orkney with Skara Brae, the Ring of Brodgar and the Stones of Stenness all within an easy drive. Stromness and Kirkwall are both reachable for shops and ferries.

This is genuine open-country living, so a car is the way to make the most of it — there's parking on site and wifi throughout. The suite has its own kitchen and washer, making it flexible for self-catering as well as a base for exploring.
