Rymmon Retreat

Rymmon Retreat is a snug timber lodge at Evie, on the north-west Mainland, set out on its own with moorland and a glimpse of loch and sea beyond. Sleeping 3 across 2 bedrooms, it's a warm cedar-clad bolthole with a veranda and a sheltered patio — the kind of spot where you can stargaze in peace and, on the right night, catch the Northern Lights.

Inside

The lodge has a cosy, cabin-like interior in light wood, well fitted out for self-catering. Inside you'll find a kitchen and the comforts of home, with a TV and a settled, homely feel — little touches like a 'Relax' sign and bunting set the tone for an easy, switch-off stay.

Where you'll sleep

There are 2 bedrooms sleeping 3. The main bedroom has a double dressed in soft neutral linen with a quilted throw, fitted wood storage and a wall-mounted TV, framed by patterned curtains and a window that catches the light. A second sleeping area is laid out with twin/single beds and plenty of pillows. There are 2 bathrooms in the lodge.

Step outside

Out front is a decked veranda and a gravel patio enclosed by a dry-stone wall, with wild roses tumbling around the edges and open moorland rolling away towards the water — a genuinely lovely place to sit out. The dark, unpolluted skies here make it a real contender for aurora-watching.

The setting

Evie lies on the north-west coast of the Orkney Mainland, close to the Broch of Gurness, the RSPB reserve and the sands of Birsay Bay, with the West Mainland's Neolithic sites — Skara Brae, Brodgar, Stenness — all within an easy drive.
