Sanderlay Guest House

Sanderlay is a friendly guest house on Viewfield Drive, a quiet residential street in Kirkwall, fronted by a stone-built facade with pots of flowers either side of the door and a lawn out front. It's a comfortable, well-kept place run with the easy hospitality you hope for on the islands.

Rooms & comfort

The bedrooms are warm and inviting, with a stone-effect feature wall behind the bed, fresh white linen finished with a green runner, a buttoned armchair to sink into and a window looking out over the green beyond. There's a TV in the room and free WiFi throughout, and everything is kept neat and homely rather than fussy.

Where you'll sleep

Expect a comfortable double or twin, dressed simply and well, with a chair to relax in and plenty of natural light. The room is the sort you settle into quickly after a long day exploring.

The garden is a real feature, with a planted rockery of summer colour, mature shrubs and a tidy lawn that catches the sun, plus the flower-edged frontage by the door. It's a pleasant spot to sit with a coffee before heading out.

You're a short walk or drive from the centre of Kirkwall, with St Magnus Cathedral, the harbour, shops and eateries close at hand, and the ferries and airport road within easy reach for days out across the islands.
