Scorrabrae sits high on the hill at Orphir, looking out across Scapa Flow, and the view is the whole point. It's a white-harled house with a slate roof and an ivy-clad gable, and from the front you watch the sun go down over the water and the low pasture below. On a still evening the sky does most of the work.

Inside, the house has a settled, lived-in warmth. Rooms have deep window reveals with exposed stonework, comfortable seating set to make the most of the light, and framed prints and artwork on the walls. There's a full kitchen, a washing machine and a TV, and it sleeps up to nine across the bedrooms and additional sleeping space, so larger groups and families are well looked after.

The location

Orphir runs along the south coast of the Mainland, facing Scapa Flow, and Scorrabrae's elevated position gives you that sea view in spades. You're a short drive from Stromness one way and Kirkwall the other, with the Orphir Round Church and the Scapa Flow heritage close by, making it an easy base for exploring Orkney.

Good to know

There's parking on site and the house is pet-friendly, so the dog is welcome. With the sea outlook and room for a crowd, it suits a longer stay where you settle in rather than dashing about.
