Shorelands B&B

Shorelands is a substantial detached house on George Street in Kirkwall, harled and slate-roofed with bay windows and a low stone garden wall, and a cheerful blue front door. It has the feel of a proper old Orkney family home turned into a welcoming B&B, and the guest spaces have real character rather than off-the-shelf blandness.

Rooms & comfort

The bedrooms are generous and individually styled. One has an upholstered sleigh bed, a chandelier and a cushioned window seat looking out over the rooftops as the evening light fades; another mixes a tartan wing chair with a glimpse through to the en-suite. Expect TVs, comfortable seating and thoughtful touches. The guest lounge is a treat in itself, oak-panelled with Chesterfield leather sofas, a grand piano, a longcase clock and shelves of books, a lovely place to settle in the evening.

The location

You're right in town, an easy walk to St Magnus Cathedral, the harbour, shops and restaurants. That central position makes Shorelands an ideal base for exploring the rest of Kirkwall and heading out across the islands by day.

Good to know

Breakfast is served in a proper dining room with tables set and a view to the garden, there's parking, wifi and a garden, and families are welcome. The house sleeps up to three.
