St Clair House

St Clair House is a traditional stone-built townhouse on the Back Road in St Margaret's Hope, slate-roofed with dormer windows and, behind it, a generous lawned garden enclosed by fencing with a mature tree for shade. It's a proper family-sized house with room to breathe, and a real garden to spill out into on a fine day.

Inside

The kitchen is fitted with solid oak units, a slate-tiled floor, a gas hob and a wine rack, with a small dining table and leather chairs for relaxed meals. Everything you need to self-cater for a houseful is here, along with a washing machine and TV.

Where you'll sleep

Three bedrooms sleep six. There's a double with a pine bed, fitted wardrobe and bedside lamps over a wood floor; a twin with a bold purple feature wall and a view to the garden; and a further double with its own storage and a chest of drawers. Two bathrooms keep a full house running smoothly, including a corner shower, pedestal basin and mirror.

Step outside

The back garden is the standout, a proper stretch of enclosed lawn that's safe for children to play and a good spot for the dog to stretch its legs, with parking on hand.

The setting

St Margaret's Hope is the main village on South Ronaldsay, linked to the Mainland by the Churchill Barriers, with a harbour, shops, cafes and the ferry to the Scottish mainland close by. It's a friendly, well-served base for the south isles and an easy drive into the heart of St Margaret's Hope and beyond.
