The Anchorage
About this property
The Anchorage occupies a handsome old stone building right on the Front Road in St Margaret's Hope, just up from the harbour. It's a sturdy, characterful place — thick walls, a flag by the gate — set up to sleep up to three across a comfortable room with its own relaxed, homely feel.
Rooms & comfort
The accommodation is bright and roomy, painted in soft sage green with carpeted floors and a wall-mounted TV. Beds are dressed in crisp white linen with towels laid out ready, and there's a wardrobe, a reading chair and a large mirror that bounces the daylight around. Windows look out over the village rooftops. A generous shared dining room with two large tables and a fitted kitchen gives you plenty of space to cook and eat together — handy when you've a full party. There's parking, Wi-Fi, a washing machine and a garden too.
The location
You couldn't be more central in St Margaret's Hope. The working harbour, village shops and local eateries — including the Murray Arms and the nearby Smithfield Hotel for an evening meal — are all within an easy walk. The Hope is the main village on South Ronaldsay and the landing point for the Gills Bay ferry, so it's a natural base for exploring the South Isles.
Good to know
This is self-contained accommodation rather than a staffed hotel, so you've the run of the kitchen, laundry and garden. Free parking and Wi-Fi are included, and the central spot means you can leave the car and walk to dinner.
Perfect for
Up to three guests — a couple plus one, a small family, or friends — wanting a well-placed, good-value village base with room to spread out and cook for themselves.
