Vestley Banks is a generous family house with one of the best living rooms you'll find for taking in an Orkney sea view. The main room opens, through a set of glazed doors, into a bright sun-room where big windows look straight out to the water — and on a clear evening the whole sky turns red over the sea, which you can watch right from the sofa.

Inside

The living space is stylish and full of light: deep grey sofas with soft throws, a bold colourful rug, a glass coffee table, a smart TV and pops of yellow and pink that keep it cheerful. It flows easily between sitting, dining and that sun-filled window seat, so there's plenty of room for everyone to spread out together at the end of the day.

Where you'll sleep

With four bedrooms sleeping up to seven, there's space for a big family or two families together. The rooms are calm and well dressed — one has a framed Kirkwall print and a reading chair, another sits up under the eaves with skylights and a green lamp throwing a warm glow. The four bathrooms are crisp and modern, mostly walk-in showers with glass screens, round mirrors and heated rails, so no one's queuing in the morning.

Step outside

The real outdoor draw here is the view — that long sweep of water and those extraordinary sunsets that make Orkney's light so memorable.

The house enjoys an open, sea-facing spot in Orkney, with parking at the door, a garden, wifi and a hot tub for soaking under those big northern skies. You're well placed for exploring the islands by car.
